Two men have been arrested with explosives that police value at about R975,000 during a stop-and-search at Kranskop Plaza on the N1 South in Limpopo, the South African Police Service (SAPS) said.
Police described the men, aged 30 and 43, as foreign nationals and did not give their nationalities. They are due to appear in the Modimolle Magistrate's Court on Monday 2 November. They are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
What police say
Officers from the Waterberg Flying Squad were on stop-and-search duty when they stopped a white Toyota Quantum minibus. According to SAPS: "They searched them and discovered bags containing explosives."
The men were arrested for transporting explosives and illegal possession of explosives. Officers seized the explosives and the vehicle. Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers praised the squad.
The value of the haul
The value of the seized explosives is reported inconsistently. One headline puts it at more than R900,000, while the body of the same report says about R975,000. We use the more specific figure and attribute it to SAPS.
