Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala is reportedly set to resume his testimony before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry on Monday 9 and Tuesday 10 November, more than a month earlier than planned.
His appearance had been adjourned to 14 December. The commission has said its public hearings resume on Monday 9 November after a pause for the local government elections.
What is known
According to the report, the revised dates were first flagged by a journalist on social media on 2 November. The commission had not publicly confirmed them at the time. We have not seen a commission statement naming Matlala for 9 and 10 November.
The commission's spokesperson, Jeremy Michaels, has confirmed in an earlier statement that the hearings resume on 9 November.
Matlala's court case
Matlala is separately on trial for attempted murder in the Johannesburg High Court. That trial resumed on 2 November after a three-week recess, according to the same report. He is presumed innocent until a court rules otherwise.
What we do not yet know
- Whether the commission will confirm the 9 and 10 November dates for Matlala.
- Which topics he will be questioned on when he returns.
- Why the date was brought forward.
