National Treasury will brief the media on Friday 30 October on the second-quarter progress report of Operation Vulindlela, according to a media advisory issued by the department.

The briefing runs from 09:00 to 11:00 on MS Teams and is open to media only. Treasury describes Operation Vulindlela as a joint initiative of the Presidency and National Treasury to drive structural reforms.

What the briefing is expected to cover

The advisory says the briefing will give an overview of progress made to date, highlight key reform milestones, and outline the economic implications and opportunities arising from the reform agenda.

A week-ahead preview published on 26 October said energy and electricity, water and sanitation, and freight logistics and transport were the areas where investment and reform news was awaited. That list comes from the preview, not from Treasury, and has not been confirmed.

Why it matters

The briefing comes a day after Eskom's chairman said double-digit electricity price hikes are over, as Insight Factor reported on 29 October. It also falls five days before local government elections on 4 November.
