Musician Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke, known as Shebeshxt or Shebe Maburna, was expected to face questions from the State on Monday 26 October in his bail application at the Polokwane Magistrate's Court. He faces 21 charges, including four counts of attempted murder, assault and malicious damage to property, linked to a shooting in Ladanna, Polokwane. He is presumed innocent.

His lawyer says he is being framed and that no video evidence places him at the scene. Chauke has previously told the court he needs surgery for a leg injury from a car crash. State prosecutor Advocate Kgaugelo Lekoloane was expected to question him.

Bail history

Earlier reports say two previous bail applications failed and that appeals to the High Court were also unsuccessful. They say some of the alleged offences reportedly took place while he was already out on bail, which weighed against him. On 30 July, his team offered R100,000 for bail at a High Court hearing.

Later, a further bail bid was postponed after Chauke appointed a new legal team. His previous lawyers, Advocate Michael Khumalo and Senior Counsel Laurence Hodes, were no longer on the team, and the National Prosecuting Authority confirmed the postponement was needed so the new lawyers could familiarise themselves with the case. The charges also include illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, according to those reports.
