Police have raided a suspected multi-million-rand drug manufacturing laboratory on a farm in Krugersdorp, west of Johannesburg, and arrested five people.
The raid took place on Thursday morning. SAPS Crime Intelligence and the Hawks carried out the operation.
National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said officers found quantities of Mandrax and ecstasy tablets at the site.
"Five South African nationals who were found at the premises have been arrested," Mathe said.
Senior officers on the scene
Police have not put a figure on the value of the lab or the drugs, and have not said how many tablets were seized or what equipment was found.
Mathe said senior police officers were on their way to the scene, where further assessments and investigations were under way.
The bust comes days after police uncovered another multi-million-rand Mandrax production lab near Hartbeespoort in North West, where four suspects were arrested.
Suspects yet to be charged
Police have not named the five suspects, said what charges they face or said when they will appear in court. The investigation is continuing.
The suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty. This is a developing story and will be updated.
