The murder case over the shooting of radio personality Warrick "DJ Warras" Stock was postponed on 22 October to 2 November because the accused are still arranging legal representation. Victor Mthethwa Majola, described as the alleged mastermind, and his girlfriend Hlengiwe Goodness Buthelezi remain in custody. Both are presumed innocent.
The matter is before Judge William Karam in the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg. The accused face charges of premeditated murder and conspiracy to commit murder over the shooting of Stock on 16 December 2025 in Johannesburg's CBD.
What happened in court
Karam said the outstanding representation issues had to be resolved before the next appearance. "This matter has been delayed long enough, with respect," he told the court.
The State said it was ready to set a trial date and criticised the months of delay since July. The case returns on 2 November for pre-trial purposes.
The legal representation problem
The accused turned to Legal Aid South Africa after earlier pursuing private lawyers. The docket was transferred from their previous attorneys, and a possible conflict of interest led to discussions about appointing private practitioners through Judicare. Legal Aid said it would consider appointing up to two lawyers.
What we do not yet know
- Whether Legal Aid will appoint lawyers before 2 November, and who they will be.
- When a trial date will be set. No date has been reported.
- Whether the accused have pleaded. No plea has been reported.
- The nature of the State's evidence, which has not been made public in the reports we have seen.
